First known Christian Place of Worship in Britain established at Lullingstone, Kent.

597
St. Augustine and his forty monks came to Britain.
St. Martin's and Christchurch in Canterbury rebuilt.


605
Monasteries founded in Canterbury and Rochester.

616
Death of King Ethelbert.  Kent relapses into paganism.

620
Dover Priory founded.

630
Eanswythe becomes foundress and first Abbess of Folkestone.

668
Greek monk, Theodore appointed Archbishop of Canterbury.

690
Theodore died but had laid the foundations for the Golden Age of the church.

1042
Over 400 Saxon churches in Kent.

1100s
Norman church built in Tonbridge on the site of a Saxon church.

1124
Tonbridge Priory founded.

1525
Tonbridge Priory closed.

1536
Thomas Cromwell orders Bibles to be provided in churches.

1555
Nicholas Ridley burned at the stake.

1648
Abolition of all church festivals leads to riots.

1653
Parliament orders that all Cathedral Churches should be pulled down.  Canterbury and Rochester Cathedrals fall into ruins.

1673
There were 17 Presbyterian, 24 Baptist and 12 Congregational Churches licensed in Kent.

1737
Bishop Potter of Oxford becomes Archbishop of Canterbury.

1829
Roman Catholic Relief Act passed. Roman Catholic Churches built in Gravesend, Ramsgate, Canterbury and Margate.

1844
Eleven Methodist Churches in Kent.
